What exactly does the Wae Rebo car transfer include?
Wae Rebo is a traditional Manggarai settlement in the highlands of West Flores, known for its cone-roofed Mbaru Niang houses and recognised with a UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Award of Merit for conservation in 2012. There is no road into the village — every visitor walks the final section, which is exactly why the vehicle half of the journey has to be handled properly.

Which vehicle do you actually need for the Denge road?
This is the question that decides whether the day goes well. The route runs Labuan Bajo — Lembor — the south coast — Dintor — Denge. The first two-thirds are sealed and reasonable; the last section climbs, narrows, and in the wet months carries gravel, washouts and standing water. Clearance, tyres and a driver who knows the blind corners matter far more than luxury trim.

Can an electric vehicle do the Wae Rebo run?
Honestly, not yet. We are one of the few operators actively putting electric vehicles to work in the Komodo region, and an EV is excellent for airport runs, harbour transfers and town movements where you return to a charge point the same day. But as of 2026 public charging beyond Labuan Bajo is effectively non-existent, and the Denge climb is the terrain that empties a battery fastest. So for Wae Rebo we use conventional SUVs. One day or overnight — which itinerary should you choose?
A same-day return is physically possible: depart around 03:00, reach Denge soon after 08:00, trek up, spend an hour in the village, trek down and drive back late into the night. It is a punishing eighteen-hour day and you see Wae Rebo at its most crowded.
The overnight version is what we recommend and what most guests choose. Leave mid-morning, arrive at Denge in the afternoon, trek up before dusk, sleep in the village, and wake to mist sitting between the cone roofs before the day visitors arrive. Vehicle and driver stay at Denge overnight and collect you the following afternoon. Guests adding Ruteng, the spiderweb rice fields at Cancar or a south-coast stop usually book this as part of a longer multi-day hire.
How do you book a Wae Rebo car transfer?
- Message us on WhatsApp with your dates, pickup point, passenger count and whether you want the one-day or overnight plan.
- We send a written quote in USD covering vehicle, driver, fuel and waiting time, plus a plain list of the community fees you pay on site.
- You confirm and we lock the vehicle and driver. In the busiest months — roughly July to September and the year-end holidays — book two to three weeks ahead, because suitable SUVs on Flores are finite.

Is the road to Denge safe in the rainy season?
It is passable most of the time between roughly November and March, but conditions change fast after heavy rain. We check the route with local contacts before departure and will say honestly if the day should be moved rather than gambled on.
How fit do I need to be for the trek?
Reasonably fit. It is a steady uphill walk rather than a technical climb, but three to four hours of continuous ascent in humidity is real work. Porters can usually be arranged at the trailhead.
Can the driver wait overnight at Denge?
Yes — that is built into our overnight quote, including the driver’s own accommodation and meals. You keep the same vehicle and driver throughout.
Can you collect us from the harbour after a boat trip?
Yes. Many guests finish a Komodo sailing itinerary and head straight inland — tell us your disembarkation time and we position the SUV at the pier.
